Big changes are in the works for Panama City

February 6, 2015

Friday, February 6, 2015, PANAMA CITY– Big changes are in the works for Panama City.

Last week, a plot of land on the corner of 23rd street and Highway 77 was purchased by an investment group with plans to turn it into a major shopping center.

Over the last couple of years, many businesses have migrated from Panama City to the beach, trying to cash in on the popularity of Pier Park, but now there is news of a shopping center going up right across from street from the Panama City Mall, which some believe is a prime spot to attract business.

Real estate agents and city officials believe it’s going to put Panama City back on the map when it comes to shopping and dining.

For more than 50 years this site was home to an auto salvage yard, owned by the Hawkins family. Every major retailer in the area has tried to get their hands on it, but the family wasn’t ready to sell, until now.
